AnOther Man Starring Robert Pattinson - Dazed Digital Article

The new issue of the men's fashion biannual is themed around heroes and villains and features Robert Pattinson shot by Hedi Slimane
Published 28 September 2009

DazedDigital previews issue nine of AnOther Man, which features Twilight star Robert Pattinson on the cover, shot by Hedi Slimane and styled by Nicola Formichetti. Inside, Dave Calhoun speaks to the 23-year-old star about the pressures of fame and the craft of acting, which he describes as the hardest thing he's ever done in his life.

Here is an excerpt from the Robert Pattinson feature written by Dave Calhoun.

Was Pattinson aware of the loyalty of fans of the Twilight books? It looks like the sort of obsessive fandom that can turn into anger and even hatred when an adaptation isn’t to their liking. Did he know what he was letting himself in for? “It’s strange because even though the figures show that the books were successful and sold millions of copies, you couldn’t even buy them in London. I tried a couple of bookshops and they weren’t available. Hardly anyone I knew had read them apart from one girl, a friend of my sister. I had no idea at all. I’d seen Kristen Stewart in Into the Wild and some of the director Catherine Hardwicke’s other films, and that’s all I thought it was, something really small.”

His manner is very laid-back. He doesn’t sound thrusting or ambitious, more like he’s just going with the flow and enjoying things. Is he going to harness his newfound fame and box-office appeal to approach the kind of filmmakers he wants to work with in the future? He’s not so sure.

“Annoyingly, there are so few parts I feel I can add anything to, or that I want to do.” But he knows what he doesn’t need. “I don’t want to be an actor for the sake of it. I don’t find any particular pleasure in being an attention-seeker." (Go to source)

'Twilight: New Moon' sells out showings, breaks sales records

If you've been holding off on buying tickets to "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" -- and who could blame you, with its Nov. 20 release date -- you may want to reconsider.

The second installment in the human-vampire love story is already setting records for selling out shows so far in advance, according to the Los Angeles' Times Company Town blog.

Okay, so the situation isn't dire yet: Only 50 of 22,000 available shows on Fandango and 13 of 2,912 on MovieTickets are unavailable. You probably won't get to dress up and argue for Team Edward or Team Jacob on opening night, though. The majority of sold-out shows are for the midnight premiere or times shortly after.

"New Moon" doesn't hold the record for earliest sales for tickets. That goes to James Cameron's sci-fi CGI flick "Avatar," which went on sale four months before its Dec. 18 premiere, none of the "Avatar" showings have yet sold out.

British-Pack - The Examiner

British stars, Rob Pattinson, Bobby Long, Sam Bradley and others bring WOW factor to dressing up !!
by Donna Peerce

When an actor or musician becomes famous, people take notice. They notice their music, their roles in movies, their relationships, their personalities, and their individual styles. It’s part of the fun and the price of becoming famous. The British lads – Robert Pattinson and his friends are quickly setting trends and the world is following. Many articles have been written about the hobo-homeless-grunge look of Rob Pattinson and his musician friends, Bobby Long, Marcus Foster, Tom Sturridge and others. They are 23 year olds who don’t seem to mind what the world thinks of their style and they seem to enjoy wearing any kind of clothes they want, be it grunge, “homeless/hobo” chic or tuxedos. This is a credit to them since many young celebrities are completely absorbed with their looks and have to wear designer clothes even to the gym. Instead, Rob and his friends are humble and down-to-earth. They are brilliant and talented, knowing that clothes do not make the artist. And while many articles have been written about their grunge look, it is fair to note that these British BFFs also know how to dress up and bring the wow factor to the fashion world when it suits them.

(Bobby Long) Young singer's in 'Twilight' of his career - Boston.com

The beautiful Bobby Long, a singer-songwriter from the UK, drew a crowd to Club Passim Wednesday night, most likely because of his connection to “Twilight’’ star Robert Pattinson. The husky-voiced, floppy-haired Long, who’s Pattinson’s real-life pal, wrote the song “Let Me Sign,’’ which Pattinson performs on the “Twilight’’ soundtrack. Long’s friendship with Pattinson and the “Twilight’’ cast has helped him sell out venues across the country - even though he has yet to record an album. Long told us backstage after the show that he doesn’t mind the attention from “Twilight’’ fans. If a teen vampire movie is what brings people to his music, so be it. “Having anyone at the shows is kind of cool,’’ Long joked, marveling at the women in the audience who waited after the gig for autographs and pictures. “It’s kind of stunning, right? It’s really cool.’’ Long said Passim is the best place he’s played on his tour so far. It made him mourn the loss of London’s small, hippie clubs, most of which are long gone, he said. “I love it here,’’ Long said of Passim. “It has a real ’60s atmosphere.’’ Perhaps Long will bring Pattinson around to the next time he visits. Cross your fingers.

Jackson Rathbone Dives Into 'Jasper's Backstory' For 'Eclipse' - MTV News

'It's an interesting time to see when Jasper was actually human and what his human form was,' actor says.
By Larry Carroll

DALLAS — We don't need to have our emotions influenced to know that Jasper Hale Whitlock is one of Stephenie Meyer's greatest creations. A 166-year-old Civil War veteran whose transformation and redemption is a key theme in the later "Twilight" novels, the character has long been a fan favorite.

Which made it all the more appropriate when the franchise landed Jackson Rathbone, a 24-year-old actor/musician whose affable, easygoing charm has made him equally popular in Twilight Nation.

Recently, we caught up with Jackson as he was preparing to begin work on "Eclipse," the currently filming third chapter in the blockbuster saga. What follows are some major plot revelations from the next two films — including his fight scene with Kellan Lutz, exposing Japer's powers earlier than you might think and how to kill one of David Slade's newborn vampires.

MTV: Jackson, what are you most looking forward to shooting in the next film?

Jackson Rathbone: I'm really excited to start filming "Eclipse." I got a chance to read the script, and we get to go back into Jasper's backstory. They actually had to ask me about my equestrian experience. I told them I can gallop and trot and all that. I used to ride. It's been two or three years since I've been on a horse, but I'm excited to get back up on the saddle.

MTV: So we're going to get to Jasper's Civil War backstory?

Rathbone: Yes, I get to shoot some Civil War stuff, and I'm also going to shoot a lot of fighting scenes. Which is great, because I just came off [M. Night Shyamalan's] "The Last Airbender," and I've been doing fighting for the last six months. So I'm ready to keep it on.

MTV: What kind of moves will you be pulling off? Just shooting guns? Obviously, it won't be highly-stylized martial arts stuff.

Rathbone: No, it won't be karate, it won't be kung fu, like the stuff we're doing in "Airbender." But even in "Airbender," the fighting styles I was doing were a little bit more loose, like street fighting. And that's kind of what this is; it's about evading.

MTV: Why is that?

Rathbone: Well, we're talking about newborn vampires that can't control their urges — they can't really think very quickly. So if you just let them go to their instincts and evade and attack them from side to side, you could get them; but if you try and go after them through force, they're going to win every time. So it's all about evasion.

MTV: Are there training scenes in "Eclipse" along these lines?

Rathbone: It's interesting; there's a lot of cool scenes where Jasper trains the Cullen family on how to fight the newborns. He gets to train Emmett — and Emmett is a born fighter — so he's telling Emmett all these techniques, and Emmett thinks he could just best Jasper [during their sparring]. Jasper ends up getting the best of him, because it's a war mentality, not just a street brawl. It's about thinking ahead; it's a chess game.

MTV: Cool. Will we see the scene where Jasper gets bitten?

Rathbone: Oh yeah, we have to see that. It's going to be great. I've been studying up a lot on the Civil War and that era. It really was a crazy time. It was all-out war on our own turf and between countrymen. That's terrible. It's an interesting time to see when Jasper was actually human and what his human form was and, when he gets turned, how intense and how dark he is. Then [we'll see] his realization of what he's become, him finding Alice and being redeemed by love.

MTV: And is that the first time we'll see your powers?

Rathbone: Actually, in "New Moon," we get a little glimpse. Inside the school.

MTV: How was it to film scenes where you were influencing the emotions of those around you?

Rathbone: It was fun. I just played it very naturally, like, if you have these special powers — like Edward has the ability to read minds — it's not like he's going to [get overly dramatic] and go, "You're hungry!" No, it's a natural thing, like the human ability to smell or to hear is a natural ability. To affect the mental state of anyone around you [I depicted Jasper as] keeping it all right in the eyes. Just thinking it and transferring it through the eyes, which are the windows to the soul — even to the soulless.

MTV: And will it be clear to the audience that this emotion-manipulation is going on?
Rathbone: In "New Moon," when we see it? It's pretty obvious.

Comic-Con 09: Live Blog from Twilight Saga New Moon Panel - SPIKE TV

SPIKE.COM

It's like a Beatles concert at the Twilight panel at Comic-Con, with more screaming female teens and preteens than I've heard since sixties archival footage of John Lennon. The stars discussed the transformation of their characters.

The actor who plays Jacob discussed having to change himself physically, and said he hopes the fans are pleased with his transformation. Kristen Stewart seemed bewildered and inarticulate and talks about how she physically changed herself from her appearance in the film.

She said she had much to "go through" to prepare for the part.

Robert Pattison was the lone voice of humility, saying he mostly had to stand on a green box and let "the machines do the work for me, which is the way I like it."

Chris Weitz briefly introduced a clip to the movie, also saying that the books appealed to him because he could identify with Bella since he'd been dumped so many times in his life.

The clip from the film was a scene that showed Jacob trying to teach Bella how to ride a motorcycle, only for her to see vestigal images of Edward. She attempts to drive the motorcycle, crashes, hits her head, and Jacob comforts her by taking off his shirt and showing off his eight-pack to screams of delight from the fans in the audience.

Most of the guys in the audience waited grumpily for the panel to end.

"She's kind of all over the place, but she's okay with it," Stewart said about her part.

"I hope I'm more like friendly and outgoing than this dark, disturbed monster," the actor playing Jacob said. "You're not a monster," Stewart interrupted.

"I look a bit like him," Pattison said about what he brings of himself to the role.

"We could not be more pleased and tickled with them," director Weitz said about the fan reaction New Moon videos. He suggested doing a fan reaction video in response to the fan reaction videos.

"Everywhere the camera pointed there were hundreds of fans there," he said of filming in Italy, "which was great." "It was just the sheer logistics of getting through all the fans to get to the camera." He said it was difficult just getting to the bathroom.

Taylor Lautner Does Teen Vogue

Twilight star Taylor Lautner looks smokin' on the October cover of Teen Vogue, photographed by Bruce Weber.

Inside, Taylor gives insight into his new-found fame.
Here are some of the highlights:

On paparazzi:"There are twelve cars that camp outside my house," he marvels. "You can't ever really get used to it, because it's not normal to have people snapping pictures of everything you do. You just have to try not to let it affect you."

On his the type of girl who is on Team Jacob:"If she likes having a really close friendship with a guy, being able to tell him anything, and then having that friendship slowly transform into something more, [she'll be Team Jacob]… I think the fans would love anybody who played Jacob, I'm just lucky to be the one who got the chance."

On acting:"At first, I wasn't interested, but [my Karate coach who was also an actor] said I could stay at his house for a few weeks, meet with some agents, go on auditions. I liked it. Taking on roles that were the opposite of what I could be in real life? That's still my favorite thing."
The October issue of Teen Vogue hits stands September 8th.
